Hong-Ho Yang Mr. Hoague AP Lit and Comp, Period 6 11 December 2015 A Gap Year after High School It is very common for many high school seniors to apply for colleges during senior year as going to college seems to be the thing that all seniors are supposed to plan on doing. However, some students have worked hard throughout the course of high school and may be exhausted from all the hard work they have put in during high school. A fatigued student going into a higher level of education will only lead to the negative consequences as he or she is no longer capable of learning at the best efficiency. A gap year system is currently introduced by many universities and is used prevalently in the United States. During her gap year of, she â€Å"toured South America with an ice-skating company and later took a trip to Russia.† (Harvard University) She gained a deeper understanding of the world relating to her major and carrier that she is pursuing. Students can remove â€Å"themselves from the lock-step mentality that can too often characterize the high school experience† (Clagett) during the gap year. With the opportunity an time given by the gap year, students tend to be more certain about the direction that they are heading and are willing to work harder as they already acknowledge

Earth is consisted of billions of humans who differentiate emotionally, physically, culturally, and mentally. Humans are characterized by their experiences and not everyone has the same experience. Where we are born, how we are raised, and how we interpret life varies. However, once in every few generations, a stressful and disturbing event happens in a child’s life that could have a great impact on him and his future. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that results from experiencing or witnessing an extremely traumatic or tragic event that extends beyond one’s coping capacity. In fact, 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced some type of traumatic event (Heal My PTSD, 2014). Trauma is not prejudice and knows no limits. However, witnessing a traumatic event as a child can have a grand effect on that child as he ages. According to the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (2007), children who experience violence or a sexual assault are found at a high risk for emotional and behavioral problems. â€Å"Youth’s exposure to violence in the home occurs at high rates and often is noted as the most common and severe adverse events during childhood,† says Margolin and Vickerman (2011). Several studies indicate that approximately 13% to 50% of children exposed to family violence qualify for diagnosis of PTSD (Margolin Vikerman, 2011). Examples of household problems could be domestic violence, child physical abuse, rape and molestation. Children experiencing physical pain or witnessing physical pain at home are at risk of containing many mental health issues other than PTSD. All of these sites are administered by well-known and legitimate organizations and loud be excellent sources of accurate and reliable information. Only material meeting my specific research parameters will be utilized in order to ensure consistency and accuracy throughout all phases of my project. While conducting my research, I will combine both quantitative and qualitative research methods in order to ensure that my findings are reliable, unbiased and objective. Because I am not focusing on a specific career field or occupation, I will ensure that my research is objective and can be reproduced by data supported through studies and research conducted on people from various backgrounds, locations and professions. By comparing data collected from the different studies meeting my criteria, I will be able to effectively utilize consistent data and eliminate irregularities or other material not applicable to my particular search focus. The symptoms, causes and health risks must be consistent in all studies. Additionally, hours spent at work and work environment should be varied to ensure that the common causes and stresses are captured.
